Salal gaultheria shallon
An evergreen bush happy in the old growth understory of Puget Sound. Grows 3-7' high. Will also grow in partial sun along road cuts. Grows in cut stumps, roots runing deep. In forest, roots are shallow but run long distances, with periodic taps deeper into the soil. Large plants difficult to transplant. Most common native bush on Bainbridge Island, second most common in old second growth forest on the Island.
