The Dolphin Place Nature Conservancy is an agreement between the Bainbridge Park District, the State of Washington and Dolphin Place to protect trees and waterfront habitat.  It protects 300 feet of  estuary waterfront and contains all species of tree native to Bainbridge, 14 altogether, and a protected Native American midden over 600 years old.  Dolphin Place Nature Conservancy provides year around habitat for many animals, from Pacific Red Legged Frog and Douglas Squirrels to Geoduck and ghost shrimp. It also creates refuge for white tail deer, bald eagles, raccoons, and over 100 other species of bird and mammals.  It has been visited periodically by Roosevelt Elk (1937), gray whale (1993), and black bear (1997).

A nature trail will be opened to the public in 2001 or before.
