"I spent many years at sea, and one of the most enjoyable aspects was surface cruising late in a moonless night. After 5 or 10 minutes away from lights your eyes become accustomed to the extreme darkness, and the bio-luminescence bursts into blue-green lava in the shock of the bow wave. Eventually, a sailor can see the dolphins deep in the water as they excite the plankton into lighting up around them as they make trails in the sea.
"This work is a dark piece of glass relief carved from behind to create a lighter image of an Atlantic Common Porpoise swimming through the waves reminiscent of the night phosphors."
