Pacific Northwest Ferns

There are at least fourteen Pacific Northwest fern species
on the Tree Garden.
The fossil record shows that ferns evolved after horsetails
and before conifers.
Historically they grew to be the largest land plants
of the time because they
developed trunks and leaves (fronds). Some
are suited for dry locations, some for wet.
