Western sword fern Polystichum munitum

Common at the Tree Garden, easy to transplant, fronds up to 4' in length, tolerates NW drought best of all NW ferns.

Evergreen, full shade to full sun, Fronds shoot up from the middle, and fall out to the sides over the season, dead fronds

creating a dense mat around the plant (which in the opinion of Al Philips reduces competition)
