Anderson's
sword fern Polystichum andersonii
This species has not been found on Bainbridge by us. Pojar notes that
it is a Puget Sound species and this cultavar was acquired through Fancy
Fronds nursury.
NW sword ferns tolerat sun and shade, and do well both in wet and dry
environments. They do better than most of our other ferns in the dryer
environments
and dominate under Douglas Fir. This fern is very similar to our standard
sword fern, and is reported to hybridize. Thew yellowing of the leaves
is due to the
advent of fall.
